Lands with Wilderness Characteristics Comments

Dear Sirs:

Please accept this correspondence as the comments of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and One Voice with regard to the proposed revision of BLM manual 6320 Considering Lands with Wilderness Characteristics. (hereinafter referred to as “the Proposal”). The AMA and One Voice support the desire to more effectively and efficiently manage public lands and believe it is critical to balance all uses under the multiple use mandate provided in 16 USC 528et seq. It has been our experience that achieving the correct balance of values in planning has been easy to state and difficult to implement on the ground. This balance can only be achieved when all values are consistently addressed in regulations as anytime one value is elevated above other values in planning, that value will improve and other values will decline. LWC and WSA designations alter this balance away from all uses achieving high levels of performance in favor of other values in the planning process. The AMA and One Voice are also aware the Wilderness Inventory process can be slow, time consuming and an often highly contentious step in the management planning process. Read the full comment here.
